San Diego Zoo

One of the largest & most progressive zoos in the world, the San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park. Home to more than 4000 animals of 800 different species, the San Diego Zoo is spread over 100 acres of land. It is one of the few zoos in the world that displays most of its exhibits in the open-air habitats except the reptile house. Artificial atmospheres, such as the African rain forests, the Arctic Taiga & Tundra regions are created within the zoo & all this give the zoo an element of awe.

Another attraction of this zoo is that in addition to a rare collection of birds, reptiles & mammals, the San Diego zoo also maintains an arboretum, which is a rare collection, which in turn contributes largely to the efforts towards preservation of species. This zoo is, in fact, has the largest population of the Giant Panda outside China.

It is worth noting that the San Diego Zoo regularly exchanges animals with the San Diego Wild Animal Park in order to provide the animals with a regular change of scenery. You can either avail of a 35 minutes bus ride that covers almost 75% of the zoo grounds or take an overhead gondola for an aerial view of the zoo. For more information you can visit their website.
