Diversity In Religion
The diversity of religion in California amazes me. Roman Catholics are the most dominant religious sect in the state of California. This apart, Protestants, American Jews, and American Muslims also occupy a large proportion of the community. In fact, Los Angeles is the second-largest Jewish community in North America. Again, an estimated 3.4% of the Californian population is Muslims, residing mostly in southern California.
It is pertinent to note that forty percent of all the Buddhists residing in America settled in California towards the end of the nineteenth century. In fact, the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area is the only region in the world where representative organizations of every Buddhist school is to be found in one single urban center. The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Northern California & Hsi Lai in Southern California is the only two Buddhist temples in the western hemisphere of the earth.
The Hindu population of California is also growing with every passing day. Few regions in the world have such a diverse religious culture. This serves for an interesting study. However, a recent Pew Research Center reveals that California is less religious than the rest of the United States of America.
