California Weather

Ranging from Mediterranean to sub artic, the climate of California is as diverse as its topography & mixed population. The Mediterranean climate is responsible for hot summers & cold, rainy winters. To experience hotter summers & colder winters, one has to move inland. The northern part of the state receives higher rainfall than the southern part.

The mountain ranges also contribute greatly to the diversity in the weather. While the west-facing mountain slopes receives the highest amount of rainfall in the state, the northwestern part experiences temperate climate. All the high mountains experience harsh cold winter accompanied by snowfall & mild summers. The deserts located on the southeastern side of California, on the other hand, experience extremely hot summers & almost frost-free winters. In fact, the Death Valley recorded a maximum temperature of 57 degrees centigrade in July 1913.

Home to some of the world’s most endangered ecological economies, California is one of the richest parts of the world. California is the proud owner of a diverse collection of flora: the largest trees, the tallest trees, the oldest trees some endemic species that have died out elsewhere in the world, for instance, the Catalina Ironwood.
